Project Rachel Healing Rock Garden – Claiming, Naming and Honouring our precious children
In June 2001, NSUL initiated the Healing Rock Garden at St. Vincent de Paul to memorialize babies who have died unborn. Fr. Pat Cosgrove, who was pastor at the time, blessed the ground and officiated its inception. NSUL hosts yearly events for Project Rachel participants and others who would like to create a healing rock in memory of babies who have died unborne. The Christ the King statue at the garden entrance came from the old Halifax Infirmary Hospital on Queen Street, and the rosary path was built a few years later in memory of a parishioner’s dear son who had died. The Healing Rock Garden continues to grow and flourish to date. It remains a place of ongoing healing and love.
Project Rachel’s Healing Rock Garden was held on June 7th 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Dartmouth. Participants painted rocks in memory of their dear babies and they refreshed the rock garden. This event will be held again in May or June 2026. Contact us to get involved or check back for updates early in the spring.
